The Sundering

Summary

The Sundering was the catastrophic event that tore through Thalureth a century ago, splitting reality itself and giving birth to the Great Scar. It marked the end of a prior age and the beginning of a fractured world, where nations were divided, truths were lost, and the balance between radiant and shadow forces was irrevocably broken.

Details

The Sundering occurred in a single, devastating moment.

At the Precipice of Malice, the combined efforts of the world’s guilds failed to prevent a catastrophic collapse. What followed was not an explosion, but a reversal—an eruption of energy from the ground upward, as though gravity itself had been undone.

Witnesses describe the sky falling as the “Heart of Gold” was sundered, and in its place, a violent column of energy tore through the world.

In that moment:

The Scar formed in the wake of this rupture, sealing the divide between the surviving nations.

No one knows what became of those on the other side.

And perhaps more unsettling—those who remain wonder if the same question is being asked of them.

Even the great draconic beings that traverse the skies lost all knowledge of their kin beyond the divide. The Sundering did not just fracture land—it severed certainty.

In the century since, knowledge of the event has fragmented:

The most dangerous theory is whispered, not taught:

This was not the end.

It was the first fracture.
