Nar'Taal

Overview

Nar’Taal stands among storm-scoured peaks, carved into stone repeatedly struck by lightning. More a permanent gathering place than a conventional city, it hosts ancestral moots and storm rites.

Authority is earned through endurance and witness.

After the Sundering, many clans retreated upward to Nar’Taal, choosing its intense height over safety. The mountain reaches into the upper atmosphere with only the chosen few that can survive its harshness at the peak.

Nar’Taal is anchored by a series of ancient totems, embedded deep within the mountain and predating the Sundering. These are not symbolic relics, but foundational structures tied to the balance of the region itself.

Totems of Nar'Taal

Each totem represents a core aspect of goliath belief:

  • Nar'Groz — force, change, inevitability
  • Thal'Tuun — endurance, memory, foundation
  • Aer'lia — continuity, spoken truth, lineage
  • Soa'rein — observation, recognition, and truth

Leylines of the Mountain

Beneath Nar’Taal runs a network of ley lines — deep, unseen currents of energy that predate recorded history. These lines converge within the mountain, making it a natural anchor point within the wider structure of Thalureth.

The totems are bound to these ley lines, acting as stabilising conduits rather than sources of power. Through them, the mountain absorbs, grounds, and regulates the forces that pass through it.

At certain times, particularly during intense storms, these ley lines become faintly visible — pulsing beneath the stone like slow-moving veins of pale light.

Following the destruction of the Totem of Nar’Groz:
• Leyline flow has become unstable
• Energy surges are occurring outside expected regions
• Effects are now being felt beyond Nar’Taal, reaching the descent paths and coastal regions

These leylines are believed to be the source of arcane power, that flows through adventures strong enough to call upon it. Those that are stormed touched Goliaths can commune directly through the leylines.

Recent History:

The most significant of these was the Totem of Nar’Groz, believed to regulate the flow of storm energy through the mountain by anchoring it into the earth. Its presence ensured that the storms of Nar’Taal remained contained, cyclical, and understood.

With the removal and shattering of Nar’Groz, this balance has been disrupted. Storm patterns have begun to shift, and energies once held in place now move unpredictably through both mountain and lowland.
